The Psychology of Pride - Julio Padovan

Pride and guilt are the two most destructive forces at work in the human psyche. Feeding each other, and from each other, these two forces flank us in our daily battles towards our improvement, with pride attacking prior to any event and guilt exercising its influence afterwards. This is the first of a series of lectures on the forces at work in our spiritual core, and it will try to address a few important questions. What is pride? Where does it come from? What is its usefulness, if any? Is it always negative in nature? And what is satisfaction? Can we turn pride into a positive driving force in our lives?

Júlio Padovan has been studying Spiritism since the age of 15. He holds Ph.D degrees in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, from University of São Paulo, Brazil. He is a member of the Spiritist Group of New York (SGNY), where he is responsible for the Sunday Study Group, and he is also Associate Professor of Chemistry at the City University of NY and Senior Research Associate and Associate Director at the Rockefeller University.
